Generally, before we use the soft starter, we must set the appropriate parameters according to the characteristics of our own load and the actual working conditions, as well as the parameters, starting mode and starting time required by the whole production line, so as to make preparations for the later use. The setting of soft starter includes: the setting of starting mode, the parameter setting of voltage slope starting mode, the parameter setting of current limiting starting mode, the parameter setting of inching mode, the setting of control mode, the setting of rated output current adjustment, the calibration of display current, etc.

1. Adjust the reference voltage - the appropriate voltage starting mode should be selected according to the characteristics of the load

Most of the soft starters can adjust the initial voltage, because the initial voltage determines the initial torque, in order to ensure the soft starting effect of the motor, the initial voltage of the slope should not be set too high, generally set to 25% ~ 50%. If the setting is too small, it cannot be started or the starting time is too long; If the setting is too high, the starting will cause mechanical shock and the starting current is too large; For no-load starting, the starting voltage can be set at 10% - 15% of the rated voltage. For medium load and heavy load starting, the starting voltage can be set at 40% - 70% of the rated voltage. If the motor does not rotate after being pressurized, the setting value of the reference voltage should be increased. If the motor starts too fast, the setting value of the reference voltage should be decreased. The adjustment of the reference voltage should be repeated several times until the load starts immediately after the voltage is applied.

2. Adjustment of starting time -- setting of starting time and stopping time

The acceleration torque of the motor is directly related to the starting time. The electronic soft starter can make the motor start along the slope from initial voltage to full voltage within the set time (0.5s-120s). If the water pump starts to increase the flow rate from 0% to 100% for a longer time, the water impact can be reduced and the time for pump speed change can be increased, that is, the starting time can be increased, which can be achieved by adjusting the starting time of the soft starter. The starting time is usually set at about 10s, and the stopping time is usually set within 20s. The adjustment of starting time depends on the specific load, and repeated tests are needed to achieve uniform acceleration within the starting time.

3. Other parameter settings

Some soft starters can set the starting torque curve and adjust the voltage to make the torque start and stop according to the set torque curve; Some soft starters have the setting of starting current limit, and adjust the current to 10% - 50% of the rated starting current; There is electronic overload protection in the soft starter. According to the nature of the load, 1-5 times of the rated current can be set. In a word, according to the actual requirements of the load debugging, can not be installed after all, also can not think that the soft starter is limited to limit the starting current of this function.

4. Application of soft start

Soft starter can reduce the output voltage gradually and realize soft shutdown to protect the equipment. Such as the impact of water in the pump, when the pump stops suddenly, the liquid inertia in the pipe will cause the pressure of the pipe and valve to rise suddenly, causing damage to the pipe. If the soft parking is used to extend the parking time, the impact of water hammer effect can be solved.
